The Project

The majority of people in Seattle know about the possibility of a earthquake known as “The Big One” but not many prepare. Seattle government needs to get people to care and understand preparation is not pointless.

CHALLENGE

SOLUTION

User Research

INTERVIEWS

Through 10 interviews a pattern of people knowing about a Seattle earthquake but not caring became apparent. The importance of this app was that is gives information to people that does not scare or overwhelm the user. From the interviews we found:

Persona

From the interviews we came up with a single persona named Spencer who is 32 that helped us focus the design for the user. Spence want to prepare and needs to maintain engagement/ motivation!!

“I feel like earthquakes are too unpredictable to really prepare for anyway”

FRUSTRATIONS

  • Feels it’s too hard to keep track of food supply
  • Getting prepared is too expensive
  • Too lazy, doesn’t care enough to make a move

GOALS

  • Doesn’t want to be scared or overwhelmed
  • Needs an easy path to getting prepared to stay motivated
  • Needs to know how much and what to buy

PAIN POINTS

From gathering all the data from the interviews, analyses, and prototypes I came up with the pain point

PAIN POINTS

Wireframe

The ideas we started with from our research was too: Gamified learning, some sort of clear path with bite-sized chunks of information Friendly/ approachable vibe to keep anxiety down

Usability Testing

Five usability tests on the InVision prototype the biggest things we learned:

High Fidelity Mock Ups

Clickable prototype

Next Steps

The next steps are to take the information from the usability test and make updates to the flows that has pain point:
