CHALLENGE

SOLUTION

User Research

INTERVIEWS

Through 10 interviews a pattern of frustration with not being able to decipher all the data provided on current dashboard. The importance of the dashboard was that it had to make information company leaders want to know about employees as discoverable as possible in order to mitigate confusion and foster consistent interaction between supervisors and employees to ensure satisfied and well-performing workers . From the interviews it was found:

Persona

From the interviews we came up with two personas Rebecca and Mark that helps focus the design for the user. Both personas need to track there teams progress and feedback.

Rebecca
My main persona she’s very busy and has no time to decipher complex, obscure graphs

Mark
Is overwhelmed and confused by the dashboard’s data, so he needs it analyzed and displayed for him.

  • Has a family, loves hiking, the outdoors, crafting and going to musicals
  • Overseeing 6 supervisors, with each 10-15 employees working under them
  • She’s very busy and has no time to decipher complex, obscure graphs
  • Needs clear insight & trends at a glance
  • Wants to see how teams compare
  • Monitor employees’ stretch goals

Mark- Supervisor

  • 34 yr old Supervisor at a small Company.
  • Oversees 15 employees.
  • Married.  Lives in Seattle.  He restores cars and does amateur drag racing on weekends.
  • He’s friendly with employees.  Fosters a fun, supportive environment.  Thoughtful: he takes interest in his employees’ lives.  Values their feelings, success and growth.
  • Needs a simpler, easier interface with nothing left to decipher.
  • Is overwhelmed and confused by the dashboard’s data, so he needs it analyzed and displayed for him.
  • Wants his feedback from employees.
  • He needs a quick Points out areas needing attention.

Sketch

From gathering all the data from the interviews, analyses, and prototypes I came up with the pain point

PAIN POINTS

Paper Prototype/ Usability Test

Six usability tests with our paper prototype, we focused on intelligent information architecture. The biggest things we learned:

Wire Frames/ Usability Testing

From the wireframe usability test it was found that the users were able to complete each flows. However there is still areas of improvement that will make it easier for the user:

  • We changed outliers to alerts
  • We changed All teams to Team comparison to more accurately represent that page.
  • We also updated each supervisor’s name to have team after it to make it clear that the user wouldn’t see only information about that user’s responses.
  • Added Updated graphs to show realistic information
  • First tested an alternative nav with each individual team in a dropdown.
  • Made it easier for user too know what page they are looking at

Final Prototype

We gathered the data form all the usability tests and created our final updates:

Clickable Prototype

Next Steps

The next steps are to take the information from the usability test and make updates to the flows that has pain point:
